We are pleased to announce that applications are open for the 2026 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Kappa Nu Omega Chapter Hershel Davis Gaines and Earline Smith Book Scholarships. These book scholarships were established to recognize and support students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, strong leadership ability, and a commitment to service within their school or community.
This scholarship will award a Jonesboro-area high school senior who plans to enroll in a college of their choice for the 2026-2027 academic year.
To be eligible, applicants must:
1.Be a graduating high school senior (Class of 2026) from a Jonesboro-area school (Jonesboro Public Schools, Nettleton Public Schools, Westside Consolidated Schools, Valley View Public Schools)
2.Have a minimum cumulative GPA of
3.Have been accepted to or planning to enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution
4.Demonstrate leadership or service involvement in school or community
To apply, students must submit the following:
1.A completed scholarship application
2.An official or unofficial transcript
3.A 250-words or fewer essay explaining 1) what service means to you, 2) how you currently exemplify service to your community, and 3) how you plan to serve your community in the future.
4.A signed letter of recommendation from a school official or community leader who can attest to your commitment to academic excellence.
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
1.Academic honors
2.School or community service
3.Essay Response
4.Overall Impression
